Welcome to the Get Healthy Tampa Bay Podcast with Dr. Kerry Reller! This week I am joined by Dr. Angela Camacho Duran, a double board-certified psychiatrist specializing in adult psychiatry and consultation-liaison psychiatry, to explore the powerful connection between mental and physical health.

In this episode, we discuss how chronic stress, depression, and emotional challenges can influence physical health, including inflammation, immune function, and recovery from illness. Dr. Camacho explains why mental health and physical health should never be treated as separate concerns, especially for individuals managing chronic medical conditions.

We also explore the difference between healthy, short-term stress and prolonged stress that overwhelms the body's ability to recover. Dr. Camacho introduces the concept of allostatic load and explains how our nervous, endocrine, and immune systems work together to respond to life's challenges.

Throughout our conversation, we highlight the importance of recognizing emotional symptoms, supporting mental well-being, and taking a more comprehensive approach to healthcare.

Dr. Angela Camacho Duran is an Adult Psychiatrist, subspecialty in Consultation-Liaison, and founder of Camacho Duran Integrative Psychiatry LLC.  Dr. Camacho completed medical school at Escuela Colombiana de Medicina, Bogota, Colombia, finished Psychiatry residency and CL Fellowship at Harvard Medical School, and completed fellowship in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute.  Dr. Camacho has been the Director of CL Psychiatry services in several academic institutions, including the University of Missouri Kansas City and the University of Florida, Gainesville. She is currently an active member and fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the Academy of CL Psychiatry and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.
